Menu “Word Search”

Menu & Cutlery on A Restaurant Table
Food has become the center of our social lives. Plans to meet friends or family usually revolve around meals and favorite eating spots, which can make healthy eating a challenge…but it doesn’t have to!

Trigger words indicate hidden fat, Calories, and sugar, and can help you “out smart” the menu! Here are words to avoid:
– Smothered
– Creamy/white sauce
– Fried/deep-fried/pan-fried
– Battered/breaded
– Crispy/crunchy
– Golden
– Glazed
– Melted
– Cheesy
These words tell us that foods are cooked in fat or sugar, which add “empty Calories”.

Instead, look for words that indicate lower Calorie cooking methods:
– Roasted
– Baked
– Broiled
– Rubbed
– Seared
– Grilled
– Steamed
– Sautéed
– Light

There are ways to lighten high-Calories meals, and most restaurants are glad to give you what you want. All you have to do is ASK! We can eat smarter at restaurants, but a light, home-cooked meal for friends and/or family is the best way to know exactly what you are eating. Plus, foods that are cooked with love always taste a little sweeter :).
